They attach to the hull, propellers and many underwater parts of the ship, reducing the ship's performance, most notably reducing the speed, increasing the cost of oil fuel to operate the ship. According to many statistics, the speed loss is 30% of the rated speed, so the fuel oil consumption increases accordingly.     Dry Docking a Ship is an integral part of ship operation as maintenance and repairs of those parts which cannot be accessed when the ship is in water can only be done in dry docks. The dry-docking process refers to when a vessel is taken to the service yard and brought to dry land so that submerged portions of the hull can be cleaned and inspected. This work is both preventative as well as a regulatory requirement within the industry. When the ship enters a dry dock, it must have a positive metacentric height; and is usually trimmed by stern.
